Applications open for second CATF CEE Fellowship for next generation of climate leaders

March 19, 2026 Work Area: Advanced Nuclear, Carbon Capture, Energy Access, Hydrogen, Methane, Superhot Rock Geothermal

Clean Air Task Force (CATF) has extended application period for the second cohort of its Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Fellowship, an eight-week programme designed to equip early-career energy and climate professionals with the skills, knowledge, and networks to accelerate the region’s clean energy transition.

Following a successful inaugural cohort in 2025, which brought together ten fellows from across Central and Eastern Europe, the programme returns with a continued focus on strengthening regional collaboration and advancing practical, evidence-based approaches to decarbonisation. Fellows from the first cohort are already applying their knowledge across government, academia, think tanks, and industry, contributing to national and regional energy transition efforts.

“The CEE region plays a central role in Europe’s energy security and decarbonisation efforts,” said Tamara Lagurashvili, Director for Central and Eastern Europe at CATF. “With this Fellowship, we are bringing together some of the region’s most promising professionals to exchange ideas, deepen expertise, and collaborate on practical solutions that can strengthen both clean energy deployment and economic resilience across Europe.”

The Fellowship combines expert-led online learning with in-person engagement. During the first seven weeks, fellows participate in twice-weekly virtual modules led by CATF experts and guest speakers, covering a wide range of topics including clean energy technologies, climate policy, and effective advocacy and communication. The programme concludes with a two-day, in-person workshop in Brussels focused on leadership, public speaking, and stakeholder engagement, alongside networking opportunities with key actors in the European energy and climate space.

“Beyond the technical content, one of the most important outcomes is the network that participants build,” said Sara Albares, Europe Regional Manager at CATF. “These connections across countries and sectors continue well beyond the programme and help support ongoing collaboration in the region.”

Up to 10 fellows will be selected for the 2026 cohort. Applicants must have 2–5 years of experience in the climate or energy sector and be affiliated with organisations operating in or working on issues related to Central and Eastern Europe, including Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Ukraine.

The programme will run from the week of 7 September to the week of 26 October 2026. The final in-person workshop in Brussels will take place during the last week of the programme, with all costs, including travel, accommodation and meals covered by CATF.

Applications are extended until Sunday, 26 April 2026. Selected candidates will be notified following an interview process in April–May 2026.
