CATF’s first CEE Fellowship builds a new generation of climate leaders
Clean Air Task Force (CATF) has completed its first Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) Fellowship, an eight-week programme empowering emerging climate and energy professionals to accelerate the region’s clean energy transition.
Ten fellows from Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Moldova, Poland, and Romania joined CATF experts and regional leaders to explore practical solutions for decarbonisation, from clean hydrogen and carbon capture to advanced nuclear and superhot rock geothermal energy. The fellowship combined expert-led sessions, peer learning, and a final in-person workshop in Brussels focused on leadership and communication skills.
“The CEE region is at the forefront of Europe’s energy security reassessment,” said Tamara Lagurashvili, CATF’s Director for Central and Eastern Europe. “This Fellowship equips the next generation of leaders with the tools and networks they need to balance clean energy deployment with economic resilience. By investing in local expertise, we’re strengthening the region’s capacity to deliver practical, lasting climate solutions.”
“What stands out most is the people,” added Sara Albares, CATF’s Europe Regional Manager. “We’re supporting talented young professionals to connect across borders, turn knowledge into action, and become lasting voices for a cleaner, more secure energy future.”
Fellows, drawn from think tanks, NGOs, academia, government, and industry, are already applying their new expertise to national policy, advocacy, and research efforts. The Fellowship is part of CATF’s wider work to strengthen regional capacity for evidence-based climate policymaking and low-carbon technology deployment.
