Reducing Methane from Oil and Gas: A Path to a 65% Reduction in Sector Emissions

Given the urgency of the climate crisis, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency should very rapidly put in place methane emissions standards at new and existing oil and natural gas sites, nationwide. In this memo, we describe how ambitious regulations can readily reduce methane emissions in 2025 from oil and gas to at least 65% below 2012 levels, with brief descriptions of the specific measures that could accomplish this.
