Comments on the Draft Notification on Air Emission Standards for Coal-Based Thermal Power Plants
CATF acknowledges that India needs more power for its development and that because coal may play continue to play a role in meeting near-term base load power needs, harmful air emissions from coal plants must be minimized. We welcome the initiative of the government to invite civil society comments on the proposed air emissions standards and expect that many local Indian nongovernmental organizations will provide valuable comments. The comments prepared by Dr. Ranajit Sahu and made publicly available here are intended to be supportive of Indian civil society and government in this process.
