About the event

Join Clean Air Task Force (CATF) to learn more about next-generation geothermal: what it is, the critical role it can play in California’s clean energy goals, and the path to accelerated deployment. This session will feature insights from geothermal project developers, community energy leaders, and technology experts working in this sector.

Our webinar aims to lay out a pathway for California to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to advance its clean energy goals, based on the research from CATF’s report, Unlocking California’s Geothermal Potential: A Strategic Opportunity for Clean, Firm Power.

California has enormous geothermal potential, especially for next-generation technologies that can access heat far below the earth’s surface. Geothermal energy can deliver clean, reliable electricity around the clock, helping the state meet its long-term energy needs while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

Developing geothermal projects in California involves navigating a complex and often lengthy process, with uncertainty at various stages – including permitting, environmental review, planning, and grid connection – which can complicate financing and project timelines. While California has taken meaningful policy steps to support geothermal development, realizing the full potential of this resource will require continued efforts.

With growing demand for clean firm power and increasing momentum behind next-generation geothermal technologies, California is well-positioned to lead – if remaining barriers to development can be addressed.
