About the event

Advances in satellite technology, open data, and national monitoring systems are creating new opportunities to detect, measure, and reduce methane emissions. This panel will explore Kazakhstan’s efforts to strengthen methane monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV), highlighting the role of emerging technologies, regulatory frameworks, and international partnerships in translating emissions data into meaningful mitigation action.

The discussion will bring together representatives from Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary (KGS), Karachaganak Petroleum Operating, Carbon Mapper, Nara Space Technology, Germany’s Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUKN), and the United Nations Environment Programme’s International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO). Moderated by Vasily Yablokov of AIRMO, the panel will feature Alfredo Miranda-González, Deputy Director of Cross-Sectoral Methane Strategy at Clean Air Task Force, who will share perspectives on Kazakhstan’s methane mitigation priorities and the role of national monitoring systems in driving effective climate action.
