About the event

Brazil’s pasture-based livestock sector presents opportunities to reduce methane emissions, improve agricultural productivity, and advance climate goals while limiting pressure on native vegetation. This session will explore how scientific research, improved livestock management, and more accurate carbon accounting can support sustainable agricultural production and strengthen national climate mitigation strategies.

The discussion will highlight Reducing Emissions through Early Slaughter, an approach that examines how shortening cattle production cycles can reduce methane emissions while improving production efficiency. It will also explore the carbon balance of Brazilian pastures, including how changes in soil organic carbon stocks can be measured and incorporated into Brazil’s national greenhouse gas inventory.

Bringing together perspectives from agricultural research, policy, and climate mitigation, including Clean Air Task Force’s Jonathan Banks, the session will examine opportunities to strengthen scientific methodologies, improve emissions accounting, and inform evidence-based agricultural policies that support both climate goals and sustainable livestock production.
