DOE Project cuts pull the rug out under communities and undermine American interests

October 2, 2025

The U.S. Department of Energy today announced the termination of 223 energy projects that were important to advancing the United States’ energy future.

Conrad Schneider, Senior Director, U.S., at Clean Air Task Force said:

“This move doesn’t just pull the rug out from under American communities, businesses, and workers counting on these projects, it weakens the U.S.’s position in the global marketplace. Demand for a range of innovative energy technologies is booming, and the U.S. just made itself less competitive.”

The awards cited by DOE were issued by the Offices of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED), Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Grid Deployment (GDO), Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains (MESC), Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) and Fossil Energy (FE).
