Secured Africa’s First Regulations to Mitigate Methane from Oil and Gas
CATF worked closely with the government of Nigeria to build an understanding of the country’s methane emissions by utilizing the Country Methane Abatement (CoMAT) tool, helping Nigeria map its primary sources of methane emissions and advising on policy pathways to reduce them.
In 2022, Nigeria announced a new set of regulations to address methane emissions from the oil and gas sector – the first country in Africa to do so. CATF continues to work with Nigeria to ensure it has the necessary tools and resources to implement the regulations.
