Launched WasteMAP Platform to Cut Methane Emissions from Waste

Reducing emissions from the waste sector has been hindered by a lack of data and lack of access to best practices and evidence-based methane mitigation measures.

The Waste Methane Assessment Platform (WasteMAP) is an open-access web tool powered by CATF and partners to create greater transparency on methane emissions data from solid waste with country-level data, city-level estimations, and site-level insights. It also includes a decision support tool that allows users to visualize methane emissions projections from current waste management conditions and compare those with alternative scenarios with improved waste management practices.

CATF, as part of the WasteMAP project, works hand-in-hand with governments and key stakeholders in Latin America to strengthen their waste management capacity and provide actionable insights to reduce methane emissions in their communities.
