Brought Firepower to Campaign for State Clean Energy Standards and Utility Zero-Carbon Pledges
One way to advance decarbonization of power grids is to mandate that utilities acquire an increasing share of their energy from zero-carbon sources each year until their portfolio is fully carbon-free. It is critical that such policies include technologies that can produce carbon-free energy around the clock. CATF super-charged successful Clean Energy Standard campaigns in California, New Mexico, Colorado, and Virginia with expert analysis and modeling, and is presently active in Arizona, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Illinois. CATF was also instrumental in working with electric utilities to voluntarily pledge to achieve zero emissions by 2050. Today, over half U.S. electric sales are covered by a zero-carbon requirement or utility pledge, making a national policy far more likely.
