Joint Statement on the Commission proposal for the Industrial Accelerator Act
As the Industrial Accelerator Act enters a crucial phase of discussions among co-legislators, CATF joins 14 other organisations in signing an open letter addressed to the Deputy Permanent Representatives to the EU.
We welcome the Commission’s proposal to establish lead markets for low-carbon materials through the introduction of requirements for energy-intensive products, but the current approach remains insufficient in both scope and ambition.
To create demand at scale and de-risk investment in low-carbon industry, we call on co-legislators to strengthen the IAA’s lead market provisions by:
- Introducing progressively increasing quotas for low-carbon materials in public procurement
- Ensuring robust and credible definitions of ‘low-carbon’ materials
- Expanding lead market measures beyond public procurement
