Joint letter to the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero regarding the urgent need for robust methane regulation in the UK energy sector 

Clean Air Task Force and more than 200 organizations and individuals urged the government to adopt strong, enforceable methane regulations in the forthcoming UK National Methane Action Plan. The letter emphasizes that tackling methane is one of the fastest, cheapest, and most effective ways to slow global warming and uphold the UK’s climate credibility.

It highlights the UK’s commitment to the Global Methane Pledge, the need to align with EU methane performance standards to protect trade and competitiveness, and references CATF’s UK Methane Regulatory Roadmap as a practical path to cut emissions from the fossil fuel sector. The signatories call for decisive action to ensure the UK’s Methane Action Plan demonstrates genuine leadership ahead of COP30.
