Comments on Reducing Methane Emissions from B.C.’s Oil and Gas Sector
Clean Air Task Force joined the Pembina Institute, Environmental Defense Fund, and the David Suzuki Foundation in submitting comments to the British Columbia Energy Regulator on reducing methane emissions from B.C.’s oil and gas sector.
The comments urge B.C. to:
- Strengthen methane regulations for the oil and gas sector with new rules, at least as protective as the new proposed federal framework. These new rules should apply early in 2025 to facilitate crucial near-term interim emissions reductions.
- Adopt further measures that will achieve near-zero methane emissions in the oil and gas sector by 2030, five years ahead of B.C.’s proposed timeline. In doing so, the B.C. government would match the level of ambition and timeline for methane emissions
