Carbon Capture and Storage in Colorado

March 18, 2024 Category: Implementation, Technology Work Area: Carbon Capture

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) refers to a suite of technologies that reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution from industrial facilities and power plants. CCS captures CO2 and other pollutants directly from a facility before they are emitted. The CO2 is then compressed and transported to where it is permanently and securely stored in deep geologic formations. Understanding the process, economics, benefits, and risks is paramount to informed decision-making about CCS technology deployment to achieve Colorado’s climate goals.
