The cost of CO2 transport and storage in Europe

This interactive tool estimates the cost of transporting and storing CO2 from industrial emission sources in Europe and allows the user to explore how costs can vary under different deployment scenarios. The map on the left indicates costs in a scenario where only currently planned, large storage hubs are available to emitters, while the righthand map assumes storage sites are developed in a wide range of promising sedimentary basins across Europe. ‘Infrastructure scenario’ allows the user to exclude onshore pipeline transport from the analysis. The levelised costs of CO2 transport by pipeline, ship, barge, and rail are derived using modified versions of models published by Sievert et al. and Oeuvray et al. Further details are available in the methodology.
