Rolling back clean energy incentives undermines U.S. innovation and energy leadership, warns CATF

July 9, 2025

WASHINGTON – This week, the Trump administration issued an executive order directing federal agencies to strictly enforce sections of the One Big Beautiful Bill that roll back tax credits for solar and wind energy projects.

Nicole Pavia, Clean Air Task Force’s Director, Clean Energy Infrastructure Deployment said:

“The generation and delivery of abundant clean energy is not, and should not be, a partisan issue. Achieving our energy goals will require clear, long-term policies that support the continued deployment of proven technologies like wind and solar, alongside the rapid scale-up of clean firm technologies. The Trump administration’s executive order directs the Department of the Interior to review whether wind and solar facilities receive ‘preferential treatment.’ At the same time, the Department of Energy is indicating that it is diverting congressionally appropriated funds away from wind and solar. These efforts run counter to the administration’s stated energy dominance objective and will not enable private sector investment and innovation, but rather impede American energy production. Erecting new policy barriers for clean energy sources will only harm domestic industry and deter investment. This approach will ultimately increase consumer prices, limit job growth, and deter investment in American energy production, ceding a fast-growing, successful clean energy field to foreign energy producers and developers.”
