Wilson Ricks

Program Manager, Electricity Program

About

Wilson is a Manager in CATF’s Electricity Program, where he leads in-house energy systems modeling and U.S.-focused electricity sector strategy. He works closely with CATF’s technology and advocacy programs and external stakeholders to inform advanced technology commercialization strategies and electricity sector policy, regulatory, and market design.

Prior to joining CATF, Wilson worked as a doctoral and postdoctoral researcher in the ZERO Lab at Princeton University. In this capacity he published seminal research on the role of next-generation geothermal power and fusion power in the U.S. electricity sector, as well as on the emissions and technology deployment impacts of granular clean electricity procurement. His research in the latter category directly informed the design of clean hydrogen production subsidies in the U.S. and Europe and has formed the primary evidentiary basis for ongoing revisions to global standards for corporate carbon accounting.

Alongside his work at CATF, Wilson currently serves as a member of the Scope 2 Technical Working Group at the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, where he collaborates with other experts and practitioners to update electricity sector carbon accounting guidelines. He is also a member and former Chair of the Technical Taskforce for the Climate Group’s 24/7 Carbon-Free Coalition.

Wilson holds a PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University, where he was also a Science, Technology and Environmental Policy Fellow in the School of Public and International Affairs, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Chicago. He was raised in northern Virginia and currently calls Seattle home.
