About the event

The European Union’s (EU) chemical industry is one of the largest industrial sectors in the bloc, providing the essential building blocks for virtually every downstream sector. However, the sector is facing acute structural pressure due to a lack of investment and pressure from an increasingly competitive global market. It is also a major source of industrial emissions while simultaneously being one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise.

This educational webinar will provide a foundational primer on the importance of the EU basic chemicals industry by detailing the key molecules, production landscape, site-level infrastructure, feedstock dependencies, as well as the leading countries and companies that underpin the European petrochemical sector. We will also explore how to shape effective decarbonisation policy at moment when the chemicals sector must balance climate imperatives with the forces driving its contractions.

The webinar will present key findings from CATF’s new report and an audience Q&A with the author, Ghassan Wakim, Director of Production for the Industrial Innovation program at CATF.
