About the event

The transportation sector accounts for nearly one-third of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, making it a significant driver of harmful air pollution. Electrification is a powerful tool for decarbonizing transportation, but policymakers are exploring a full suite of transportation solutions, given the scale and complexity of the challenge.

A low carbon fuel standard (LCFS) is a policy that encourages the use and production of cleaner, low-carbon transportation fuels (including electricity), while reducing reliance on petroleum-based products. LCFS programs set gradually decreasing carbon intensity standards for gasoline, diesel, and the cleaner fuels intended to replace them, enabling the market to determine what mix of fuels will be used to meet emissions reduction benchmarks. LCFS programs use a market-based approach to reduce transportation-related pollution and advance low-carbon fuel technologies, while bringing all relevant stakeholders to the table. Several states, like California, Oregon, and Washington, have already implemented LCFS programs, with several others currently exploring policy options.

CATF’s webinar will explore policy design, opportunities, and considerations for state LCFS policies in the United States.

Please join us for the third installment of CATF’s 2025 State Policy Webinar Series, where attendees will hear from our experts on state opportunities for low carbon fuel standards.
