About the event
Livestock production is responsible for 32% of all human-made methane emissions—a potent greenhouse gas that has already driven half a degree Celsius of the warming the world is experiencing today. Optimizing the productivity of livestock systems is a crucial lever to cut methane emissions and their climate impacts while also improving farmer livelihoods and promoting human and animal health. Optimal productivity is also central to accelerating the development and adoption of breakthrough methane-reducing technologies, elevating locally adapted solutions, and unlocking climate finance and resources for countries, which can drive the investments needed to build climate-smart livestock systems.
At this event, the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Clean Air Task Force (CATF), Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), and Spark Climate Solutions will discuss the key pillars for optimizing productivity and reducing livestock emissions: feed, breed, and animal health. This holistic approach delivers mutually reinforcing wins for climate, livelihoods, and health. The event will feature perspectives from diverse livestock stakeholders and showcase examples of innovative finance, capital needs, opportunities for technology development and adoption, and the importance of intentional data and robust measurement frameworks. Together, these discussions will explore how sustainable livestock systems can achieve their core goals: food production, economic growth, land protection, and emissions reductions.
