About this event
Livestock products are vital for food security, nutrition, and livelihoods, especially in developing countries, but the sector is a major methane emitter. As demand rises, production must align with strong climate action. Key opportunities include sustainably increasing productivity through better feed, genetics and animal health, and scaling emerging emission-reducing technologies with proper market support. Yet diverse regional contexts make solutions uneven and influence political, scientific and social positions. Limited finance and the need for robust and transparent yet practical data are additional barriers. Achieving climate goals requires coordinated efforts: governments set ambitious policies, the private sector drives innovation and finance, and civil society supports credible monitoring tailored to local systems. This critical collaboration must also be designed and implemented with the context in which livestock systems are produced in mind.
This event aims to bring together multiple stakeholders to discuss how collaborative work can integrate climate action into livestock production, while producing nutritious food and addressing food insecurity, accounting for the uniqueness of livestock systems in different regions of the world.
