About

Michael Adu Okyere is the Regional Policy Manager for the Clean Air Task Force’s (CATF) Energy and Climate Innovation Program in Africa. In this role, he leads research and policy initiatives aimed at accelerating sustainable energy transitions across the continent, championing development-centered pathways that reflect Africa’s unique context.

He joined CATF in 2023 as an Energy Economist, conducting policy-oriented research on the energy-climate-development nexus in Africa. With over a decade of experience as a research economist, Michael specializes in translating technical research into actionable policy frameworks through close collaboration with local and international stakeholders.

Previously, he served as a Research Fellow at Xiamen University’s Belt and Road Institute (BRI) in China and has contributed to collaborative projects with institutions such as UNU-WIDER, the Environment for Development Initiative (EfD), and the World Bank.

Michael holds a PhD in Technology Economics and Management from Xiamen University, an MPhil in Economics from the University of Cape Coast, and a BSc in Mathematics (Statistics option) from the University for Development Studies in Ghana. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals including Energy Economics, Environmental and Resource Economics, and Energy Research & Social Science, underscoring his contributions to energy transition research and policy discourse.
