April 10, 2023 Work Area: Carbon Capture

WASHINGTON – Clean Air Task Force (CATF)’s John Thompson was recently appointed to serve on the White House Council on Environmental Quality Carbon Dioxide Capture, Utilization and Sequestration Non-Federal Lands Permitting Task Force.

“We are excited for John’s appointment to the White House’s carbon capture task force, where his technical expertise will be invaluable to ensure equitable and efficient development and deployment of carbon capture projects across the country,” said Conrad Schneider, Senior Director, U.S. at CATF. “We have unprecedented opportunities to advance a suite of climate solutions, including carbon management technologies, as federal and state decisionmakers turn their attention toward policy implementation. The time is now to double down on reducing emissions, and John is a great addition to the administration’s team of advisors to guide it in the right direction at such a pivotal moment.”

“I am honored to join many esteemed colleagues and friends, who have been working tirelessly on deploying the technologies we need to tackle climate change,” said John Thompson, Technology and Markets Director at CATF. “This is a momentous time for carbon capture in the United States in light of the enhanced 45Q provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act. Now, developers, communities, and policymakers must come together to ensure carbon capture quickly slashes emissions and provides the greatest possible benefits for all groups.”
