Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is three different technologies that together isolate carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The component technologies are:
- Capture and compression;
- Transportation through pipelines,
- Injection for storage deep below the Earth.s surface in saline formations or in depleted gas or oil fields.
CCS costs are expected to go down as more experience is gained from demonstration projects and technology progress allows more efficent CO2 capture.
