As Senior Transportation Technology Manager, Tom serves as an internal thought-leader and knowledge resource for transportation technologies. Tom develops and manages a system for scouting and prioritizing promising zero- and low-carbon transportation technologies and works with CATF program staff to integrate and leverage CATF expertise in zero carbon fuels, bioenergy, decarbonized fossil energy, and the abatement of methane and other super pollutants. Tom is CATF’s key point of contact with external transportation technology experts. Tom also supports other CATF technology activities such as industrial hydrogen and ammonia use.

Avant de rejoindre CATF, Tom a commencé sa carrière chez Mitsubishi Heavy Industries dans un centre de recherche et de développement situé au Japon. Il y a travaillé pendant 8 ans, d'abord en tant qu'ingénieur puis en tant que chercheur en chef, en se concentrant principalement sur le cycle combiné à turbine à gaz (GTCC) ainsi que sur d'autres technologies connexes dans le secteur de l'énergie et de l'électricité. Tom est ensuite retourné aux États-Unis et a travaillé chez MHI America pendant trois ans en tant que chef de projet et agent de liaison principal entre MHI et le MIT pour la recherche conjointe sur le développement de technologies GTCC de pointe. Une partie de ce travail a consisté en un repérage technologique où il a étudié un large éventail de sujets, tels que les moteurs à turbine à gaz fonctionnant à l'ammoniac, et d'autres technologies énergétiques futures.

Tom est titulaire d'une licence et d'une maîtrise de sciences en ingénierie aérospatiale, aéronautique et astronautique du MIT.
