About

Rocio joined CATF’s Zero-Carbon Fuels and Transportation Decarbonization Programs in July 2022. Before joining CATF, she was a project officer at the Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) of the European Commission in the Energy, Transport and Climate directorate in Italy. During this period, she worked across a wide range of projects such as the water-energy nexus in Africa, floating PV, direct air capture and e-fuels production and GHG emissions support for the Innovation Fund, covering projects in energy intensive industries, renewable energies, energy storage, and CCUS. In the past, she also worked at the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium (SBRC) in Abu Dhabi on the Seawater Energy and Agriculture System (SEAS) flagship project focused on the production of aviation biofuels from salt-water plants. Prior to moving to Abu Dhabi, she developed her career in the aerospace industry working in aircraft manufacturing in China for the C919 and aircraft systems engineering at Airbus in Spain and UK.

Rocio holds a BSc. and MSc. in aerospace engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid, a MSc. in water and environmental engineering from Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi and a GDip in climate risk management from the University of Waterloo.
