About

Desmond Johnnie is a State Environmental Justice Manager at CATF. He has worked to ensure justice, health, and safety for the Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and low-income communities historically most affected by environmental injustice across the Gulf Coast by combining knowledge gained from real-life experiences with scientific data to form a unique understanding of the situation. Through this work, he has gained understanding of pathways for successful decision-making, while being mindful to consider past, present, and future intersections of the impact of climate change on communities.

Desmond comes to CATF with a background and interest in nonprofit administration and capacity building, fundraising, fiscal sponsorship, and grant management. Most recently, as a Program Specialist at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Grant and Fiscal Sponsor Manager at the Foundation for Louisiana, Desmond developed fundraising systems and processes and partnered closely with senior leadership on finance and development strategy. Desmond is a New Orleans, Louisiana native and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education from Florida State University.
