Mario Draghi’s report on the future of European competitiveness emphasizes that innovation is crucial for maintaining and enhancing Europe’s competitive edge. The report highlights several key points:
- Closing the Innovation Gap: Europe needs to close the innovation gap with the U.S. and China, particularly in advanced technologies.
- Productivity and Growth: Innovation is essential for boosting productivity, which is necessary to sustain economic growth, especially given the projected decline in the workforce.
- Technological Leadership: Europe must invest in emerging technologies to drive future growth and maintain its position on the global stage.
Supporting innovation is therefore seen as a fundamental strategy for ensuring Europe’s long-term competitiveness and prosperity. This side event will discuss how the Bank is supporting innovative companies to ensure access to finance for green tech investments at different stages of development.
