CATF, representing Ohio Environmental Council, Natural Resources Council of Maine, and the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), filed two lawsuits challenging U.S. EPA's attempt to relieve coal-fired utilities of the requirement to issue stringent emissions standards for the significant amounts of toxic air pollution emitted by that industry, and to substitute a much weaker and less timely cap-and-trade approach.

CATF and our colleagues from the Natural Resources Defense Council today filed comprehensive comments on EPA's Proposed Emissions Standards for Toxic Air Emissions from the Electric Utility Industry. Our comments argue that EPA's proposals are illegal, and without technical merit, and that a maximum achievable control technology standard that meets the Act's requirements is achievable and cost-effective. Our comments are in five chapters, an executive summary, and technical appendices.
