In the United States, there are approximately 20 commercial-scale projects in advanced development that would utilize CCS. These projects are identified on the map and chart below.
The projects include both post-combustion capture and pre-combustion capture through gasification. The bulk of these projects plan to store CO2 using enhanced oil recovery. Many of the projects are new plants that would capture and store carbon from the outset, while others would phase-in CCS soon after opening. A few of the projects shown below are in operation or under construction, but most are still in development awaiting permits or financing. Not all proposed projects on the map and chart will be built, and many may be cancelled or replaced with other projects. Details of the projects are available at http://www.coaltransition.org/pages/united_states/85.php.
