Health Impacts of Diesel, Based on Data from NATA

The contribution of diesel particles to ambient particle levels less than or equal to 2.5 microns (PM2.5) in aerodynamic diameter are from the National Scale Air Toxics Assessment (NATA) program. The epidemiological studies and methods used to estimate the health impacts of diesel are the same as those used by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in recent regulatory impact assessments.

Section 2 describes the studies and methods used to estimate the health impacts of diesel. Section 3, briefly summarizes the national level health impacts. Additional details on the studies are provided in Appendix A.
